Director and choreographer Marija Simona Šimulynaitė, founded BALTIC BALLET THEATER (BBT) in 2010. The same year troupe made its first performance ‘ANOTHER WORLD’ based on Depeche Mode Music; for Marija it was already her 11th personal premiere. Her first drama-dance performance was made in Tartu (EE) and was based on F. Durrenmatt play ‘The Physicists’, it was shown in Sadama Theater.

Marija was a professional ballet dancer (Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater, Vanemuine Theatre in Tartu), she ended her career as a principal dancer in 2008.

Marija graduated from National M. K. Čiurlionis Art Gymnasium ballet department in 2004. She graduated from Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy in 2010 and received master degree in theater artistic direction. Marija also gained experience from working with such directors as A. Anuchina (RU), M. Toming (EE), A. Siegert (DE), S.Pepialiajev (RU) and etc. in Vanemuine Theater.

She was a trainee in Royal Swedish Opera, Finnish National Opera, Estonian National Opera. Later Marija was invited as a visitor to Royal Opera House (UK), Sydney Dance Company (AU), Guildhall School of Music and Drama (UK), Royal Academy of Music (UK), Norwegian Theater Academy (NO), Sibelius Academy – University of the Arts Helsinki (FI).

Marija was a lector and main director at Lithuanian Academy of Music Theater studio of Opera for five years. Now Marija is sharing her experience by teaching seminars of ‘Body language’ (unverbal comunication), also in fields of ’emotional expression’, singers’ gestures, classical dance philosophy, and etc. Marija also provides organizational services for corporate events, as well as directing, script writing services for various companies, and private clients.

In 2012 performance ‘Another World’ was awarded by digital creative industries ‘PixelAWARDS’ for the best projects, products, and solutions that involved the synthesis of digital technologies and creativeness in their development process. In 2009 Marija received a nomination at the Golden Scene Cross Awards for her modern dance performance based on music from Tchaikovsky’s ‘The Nutcracker.’

Marija and 14 professional dancer, strive to grow together with BBT. In 2017 around thirty new premieres in the field of contemporary ballet dance, drama, opera, and other shows were added to Marija’s creative list.
